Busy Friday for Brandon Police

It was a busy 24 hours for the Brandon Police Service as they responded to about 70 calls for service on Friday.

Police were called to the 100 block of 2nd Street on Friday morning to remove an intoxicated 23-year-old man after he refused to leave the residence. A computer check revealed the man had a court order that included the condition that he abstain from drinking alcohol. The man was arrested and spent the night at Brandon Correction Centre and is expected to appear in a Brandon court Saturday.

The same morning, police got a complaint from a hotel in the 2700 block of Victoria Avenue that a guest had checked-out the previous day without paying for about a months worth of lodging. The manager of the hotel was able to provide police with an address for the man and police located the 29-year-old suspect and arrested him. He was released from custody and is set to appear in provincial court on June 4.

Friday afternoon, police were contacted by a Brandon resident about the possibility of a impaired driver. Police were able to intercept the driver who showed signs of impairment. The driver was asked to provide breath sample which indicated a blood alcohol level approximately two-and-a-half times the legal limit. A 49-year-old Brandon man was released from police custody and is set to appear in court on April 12 to face charges of impaired driving, driving over .08 and speeding. 

Friday night, police were called to the 1000 block laneway between 6th and 7th Streets, where it was reported an assault was taking place. Investigation revealed an assault did take place and that it was domestic in nature. A 26-year-old man from Brandon has been charged with assault, he was released from custody and set to appear in court on May 31.
