Woman killed in collision with school bus was mother of two kids on bus

BIGGAR, Sask. - Officials say a woman who was killed in a crash between a truck pulling a cattle trailer and a school bus was related to two of the three children on the bus.

On Tuesday, RCMP identified the woman as Monica Domes, 40, of Biggar, Sask. She had been standing on the road beside her stalled truck when she was hit.

"The lady who was killed was the mother of two of the boys on the school bus at the time," said Diane Cote, superintendent of the Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Board.

"It's a small community so I'm certain a lot of people knew about it prior to us being there ... we talked to the staff and during the morning prayers we told the students what had happened."

Cote said the woman's two boys were in Grade 2 at St. Gabriel School in Biggar.

They and the only other child on the bus suffered cuts and bruises but were released from hospital after being checked out on Monday night.

However, the driver of the school bus has been transferred from Biggar to a Saskatoon hospital. Police don't know how seriously he's hurt.

A man who had been sitting inside the truck while he and Domes were waiting for roadside assistance was not injured.

Sgt. Craig Cleary says a collision analyst is trying to piece together what happened, but investigators have found that Domes was not on the travelled part of the highway.

Cleary says the Domes family has asked for privacy.
