Thursday, Aug. 16

• All day — The Canadian National Arabian and Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show will take place at the Keystone Centre with more than 750 horses taking part.

• All day — Virden Indoor Rodeo and Wild West Daze kick off today. Includes high school rodeo, 3D barrel racing, demolition derby, a trade show, and much more.

• All day — Hanover Ag Society Fair begins today, featuring a Bullarama and ribbon cutting ceremony at Steve’s Livestock Rodeo Arena.

• 7 p.m. — Music in the Parks presents Darlene Tufts’ Husband, at Princess Park.

• 7:30 p.m. — AugustFest 2012 presents Concert 4: The Music of Jocelyn Morlock, held at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at Brandon University. Morlock will be present to discuss her music with artists and members of the audience. Ticket info available at augustfest.ca.

• 7:30 p.m. — Cara Luft in concert at Poor Michael’s Bookshop in Onanole.

• 9 p.m. — Misty Street plays at the Minnedosa Inn.

Friday, Aug. 17

• The Manitoba Pony Chariot and Chuckwagon Association races will take place in McCreary today. Call 835-2519 for more information.

• The seventh annual Harvest Sun Music Fest takes place at Kelwood. Tickets available online at theharvestsun.com or at Poor Michael’s Bookshop in Onanole.

• Hanover Ag Society Fair, featuring a 4-H beef auction, pet show, a horse-drawn wagon ride, heritage tours and an evening roping school. The rodeo event begins at 7 p.m. at Steve’s Livestock Rodeo Arena.

• The Canadian National Arabian and Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show will take place at the Keystone Centre with more than 750 horses taking part.

• 4 p.m. — Southside Farmers’ Market is held in the Zellers parking lot until 7 p.m. every Friday evening until Sept. 28.

• 5:30 p.m. — The Goods and Services Auction and Barbecue Supper will be held at the rodeo grounds in Rapid City. Supper begins at 5:30 p.m. under the tents. Adults are $12 per plate, 6-12 years old are $5 per plate, and kids under five eat free. The auction will follow. Items to be auctioned include a helicopter ride for two, a free oil change, and a 10-yard load of dirt.

• 6 p.m. — Kids can learn the fundamentals of basketball during the Linden Lanes School’s Slamboree event. There will be basketball drills, giveaways, prizes, free hotdogs and freezies. All ages are welcome.

• 7:30 p.m. — AugustFest 2012 presents Concert 5: The AugustFest Quartet, featuring Joan Dillon on violin, Laura Jones on cello, Greg Hay, viola, and Donna Laube on the piano. Ticket info available at augustfest.ca.

Saturday, Aug. 18

• All day — The Canadian National Arabian and Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show takes place at the Keystone Centre with more than 750 horses taking part. Saturday is the final day for this event.

• Hanover Ag Society Fair, featuring a 10 a.m. parade, the World Famous Grunthal Chicken Barbecue, and children’s entertainers Luly & The Tomcat. Shane Yellowbird, Quinton Blair and Luke Reimer will perform at the Fairway Ford Mainstage, starting at 6 p.m.

• Great Western Harness Racing will run today at the Wawanesa Race track. Phone Alvin Taft at 724-7245 for more info.

• 7 a.m. — The annual Kelwood Fair begins with an early morning pancake breakfast today, with a parade to start at 10 a.m. A horse show, including a driving and heavy horse competition, will follow. Call 967-2830 for more information.

• 9 a.m. — The second annual Junior Clays Clinic is an opportunity for fist-time and novice shooters between the ages of 12 and 17 to learn shotgun safety and techniques from experienced instructors. It’s hosted by the Brandon Gun Club, located four miles south of Shoppers Mall on Highway 10. To register, contact Kim at alexbdnhunt@gmail.com or Mike at mbonner8@gmail.com.

• 9 a.m. — The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba will hold its 17th annual Motorcycle Poker Derby at 457 Ninth St. in Brandon. The registration fee is $25 for riders and includes breakfast, one poker hand and a barbecue dinner. Guest riders pay $15, and fee includes breakfast and dinner.

• 9 a.m. — Brandon Farmers Market Co-op Inc. is held at The Town Centre parkade until noon.

• 9 a.m. — The downtown Global Market is open until

1 p.m. Popular farm vendors tend to sell out, so people are urged to get there early.

• Noon — The Alonsa School Reunion will be held at the Alonsa Community Centre. The event includes baseball, kids activities, school tours, and a barbecue supper. Supper and social is $30 and the social alone is $15. All proceeds will go to the Alonsa School Playground committee.

• 5 p.m. — The eighth annual International Country Gospel will draw performers from Canada and the U.S. to the International Peace Garden. Music will run between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Jamming sessions follow the performances. The event coincides with the Unique Button Collection Display/Sale and Northern Lights Quilt Show, that runs between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., also at the International Peace Garden.

• 5 p.m. — The Parkland region’s annual Supper-in-the-Field event will be held in a field near the historic East Gate in Riding Mountain National Park. Enjoy fresh regional foods prepared by local chefs, bakers and cooks. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. For information and tickets, call 1-888-528-6484 or visit parklandtourism.com. Tickets are $65.

• 7:30 p.m. — AugustFest 2012 presents A Celebration of Jazz, featuring Karl Jannuska, Sienna Dahlen, Ben Dietschi, Greg Gatien, Jesse Dietschi, Larry Roy and Will Bonness. Ticket info available at augustfest.ca.

• 8 p.m. — Club 77 dance, with music by Tiger Hills, will take place at the Ukrainian Reading Association Hall. Lunch served at 10 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Sunday, Aug. 19

• Great Western Harness Racing will run this weekend at the Wawanesa Race track. Phone Alvin Taft at 724-7245 for more info.

• All day — Hanover Ag Society Fair, featuring a community worship service at 10:30 a.m. The band Blueview will perform at the Fairway Ford Mainstage at 11:30 a.m. Horse drawn wagon rides, heritage tours, a petting zoo and pony rides will run in the afternoon. Fireworks begin at 10 p.m.

• 1 p.m. — The Old Iron Club Tractor Derby will begin at 1 p.m. next to the RPM office in Strathclair. Tractor games will follow the derby at the Strathclair fairgrounds. At least 15 old-time tractors from 1965 or earlier are expected. Admission is free. Entry fee for the tractor derby is $10.

• 1 p.m. — A Pug Fest will be held at the East End Community Centre until 5 p.m., with the proceeds to the Brandon Humane Society. Donations will be accepted for attendance. If you have a pug and would like to be involved or for more information, call 204-721-0660 or 204-724-7273.

• 1 p.m. — Join the street party at Souris’ third annual Multicultural Festival. There will be food vendors, entertainers, children’s face painting and inflatable bouncers. Admission is free. Call 741-0467 for more info.

At the clubs

• Lady of the Lake pub — Thursday is pizza night — flatbread pizza plus a pint of beer, glass of wine or salad for only $9.99. Enjoy the $5 Taco bar on Friday from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Saturday features Surf ‘n’ turf for $15 and Justin Lacroix with some folk music at 7 p.m.

• Houstons Niteclub — Thursday is ladies’ night, where ladies get free cover charge all night. New drink specials Thursday nights for details on specials call Houstons or check them out on Facebook. They are almost too good to be true! On Friday night, the Houstons Brandon Marlins social takes place in the loft. Tickets available for the social in the loft or from a Marlins team member. Friday night, Hammerboxx takes the stage and DJ Razor also plays a mix of country, rock, top 40 and all the classics. Friday’s Platinum draw is now $5,000 and is free to enter.

• The 40 — Friday and Saturday nights Nuthin’ But Trouble entertains on stage. Upcoming: Aug. 22 is the Battle of the Bands with up to 12 bands chosen to battle to open for Rock the Block; Sept. 14, Kenny Shields and Streetheart; Sept. 15, Wanted Man, a tribute to Johnny Cash; Sept. 21, 54-40 in concert.

• The Great Western Roadhouse — Flirt Friday featuring DJ Scotty Miami; House Party Saturdays features guest DJ Otis and Ladies Only Express entrance. Doors open at 9 p.m. both nights.

• Georgie’s Patio (Keystone Motor Inn) — Karaoke on the patio at 8 p.m. on Friday.

• Crystal Hotel — Blue Steele entertains Friday and Saturday at 9:30 p.m. Saturday’s jam session runs from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. Free poker on Sundays at 2 p.m., Monday and Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

• Double Decker — Ingrid Gatin returns to Brandon on her summer tour on Friday night at 9 p.m.
