Today (Nov. 8)

• 7 p.m. — ACC’s International Beer and Food Festival will take place in the Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts until 10 p.m. Students will discuss their selections while you sample over 50 beer and food pairings from around the world. Tickets are $50 and available by calling 204-725-8738.

Friday, Nov. 9

• 9:30 a.m. — Brandon Farmer’s Market is now open inside the Town Centre until 4 p.m. every Friday. Local products include produce, baking, canning, jams and jellies, honey, perogies, noodles, crafts and much more.

• 1:30 p.m. — Come enjoy an afternoon of dancing, music and fellowship at Central Community Centre every Friday until 3:30 p.m. Live music and lunch provided. Admission is $5. For more info, call Marjorie 204-727-3680 or Alda 204-728-8790.

• 6 p.m. — Brandon University Bobcats Women’s Volleyball takes on Manitoba in the Healthy Living Centre gym. For more info visit gobobcats.ca.

• 7 p.m. — MayWorks presents musician and activist David Rovics in concert at the East End Community Centre.

• 7:30 p.m. — Dance to the music of After 8 at Belmont Hall. Adults $12; 12 and under are free. Proceeds to the Belmont Hall.

• 7:30 p.m. — The Evans Theatre presents “Robot and Frank”, starring Peter Sarsgaard, Frank Langella and Susan Sarandon and Liv Tyler, at the Evans Theatre. All seats $6. (5-movie pass $24). All concession items $2.

Saturday, Nov. 10

• 2 p.m. — MTS Television, RCA Museum and Street Media are offering a special screening of the new documentary “Warpaths: Every Town Had Soldiers” by Graham Street and Marc George at the CFB Shilo Base Theatre in General Strange Hall. Screening will be followed by a question and answer session with Marc George. Admission is by donation with all proceeds going to the CFB Shilo United Way Campaign.

• 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. — St. Matthew’s is holding theirTurkey Dinner with sittings at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets: Adults $13; child $6 and a family of four, $29. Available at the church office or reserve by calling 204-727-2380.

Sunday, Nov. 11

• 10:30 a.m. — Remembrance Day Service will be held in the Community Centre Annex Bldg. L-25 at CFB Shilo.

• 10:40 a.m. — Brandon Branches No. 3 and No. 247 of the Royal Canadian Legion are conducting their Remembrance Day Service in the Westman Communications Group Place in the Keystone Centre.

• 1 p.m. — Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum is hosting a free open house from 1- 4 p.m. At 2 p.m. visit the museum canteen for a free presentation of remembrance entitled, “Two World Wars Plus”. The museum’s Ladies Auxiliary will be providing coffee and doughnuts in the main museum. For further info, call 204-727-2444.

• 3 p.m. — Remembrance Day Te Deum concert will take place at St. Matthew’s Cathedral featuring the Neelin Girls Chamber Choir with Carolyn Gwyer, conductor. No charge.

• 3 p.m. — Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra Scottish Symphony: A Selkirk Settlers Celebration will take place at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. This marks the 200th anniversary of the arrival of the Selkirk Settlers whose heritage we honour with music. Tickets available at the box office or by calling 204-728-9510 or buy online at ticketturtle.com.

• 4 p.m. — Brookdale Fowl Supper will take place at the Brookdale Community Hall from 4-6:30 p.m. with continuous seating. Adults $10; 6-12 yrs. $6 and preschoolers are free.

• 5 p.m. — Brandon Wheat Kings vs. Swift Current Broncos in Westman Place at the Keystone Centre. For more info, or tickets, call 204-726-3555 or at tickets.keystonecentre.com.

At the clubs

• Lady of the Lake pub — Thursday is pizza night — flatbread pizza plus a pint of beer, glass of wine or salad for only $9.99. Friday is $5 Taco Bar from 4-6 p.m. Get here early and enjoy the spread. Gerry Perkins plays your favs at 6 p.m. followed by the Whitemud Blues Band at 9 p.m.

• Houstons Niteclub — Join us on Wednesdays evenings for $1 burgers and $6 wings (includes beer or bar shot) and again on Thursday evening for the $1 burger deal. Thursday night is ladies night and come on down and join in the fun with our Kokanee night which includes special prizes up for grabs, special drink and shooter specials; dance the night away with DJ Razor. Friday features our 3-1 appetizer special from 5 p.m. to close of kitchen, the perfect meal before the Wheaties game. Following the game, bring your ticket stub back for free entry. Jason Kirkness takes the stage for three sets starting at 10 p.m. plus $2500 up for grabs on our Platinum Wheel. Start Saturday off with the Hoedown special, $5 for a meal that includes a beer or bar shot then stick around as JD TEc G makes his Houstons debut with all the hits, classics and country songs you’ve come to love.

• The 40 — Big Sugar with reggae legend Willi Williams and special guests The Balconies takes the stage at The 40 on Friday night. Tickets are $25 available at The 40 and the front desk of The Trails West Inn 204-727-3800. Doors open at 9 p.m. Saturday features The Revival: The Ultimate Led Zepplin Tribute Band. Upcoming: Nov. 15, Boys of Fall tour with Dallas Smith and Chad Brownlee. Tickets $20. Next Jazz Nite at The 40 is Nov. 20 with BU’s Big Band directed by Eric Platz.

• The Great Western Roadhouse — Friday is Wheat Kings Respect All - Fear None, all you can eat ribs buffet for $11.95 plus tax from 5-7 p.m. Group reservations welcome by calling 204-727-1422. Flirt Friday features DJ Scotty Miami. House Party Saturdays features DJ Red and Ladies Only Express entrance. • Crystal Hotel — Johnny Dietrich and the Silver Dollar Band entertain Friday and Saturday at 9:30 p.m. Saturday’s jam session runs from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. Free poker on Sundays at 2 p.m., Monday and Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

At the galleries/museums

• The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba — In the Main Gallery: Landed: drawn and framed by Brandon-based Ben Davis and S*OIL by Maria Michails. Both exhibitions explore the ways in which our environment is shaped through land use and agricultural industry. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday until 9 p.m. Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Closed Sunday, Monday and major holidays. Guided tours available by appointment by calling 204-727-1036.

• The Royal Canadian Artillery Museum at CFB Shilo — The Gun Park features 31 guns and vehicles from the Second World War. It is the largest outdoor artillery exhibit in Canada and one of the largest permanent outdoor military equipment displays in North America. The exhibit is accessible free, seven days a week during daylight hours, weather permitting. Hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday to Friday. Call 204-765-3000, ext. 3570, for information and to book tours. To honour those who have served our country, the museum will be open with free admission from 1-5 p.m. on Nov. 11. Explore. Experience. Remember.

• The Daly House Museum — Come visit the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly, which was built in 1882. Our current exhibit “Steam Punk” takes a look at the Victorian Art of Technology and Science Fiction. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. For info, call 204-727-1722 or visit dalyhousemuseum.com.

• 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum — Come check out the Lt.-Col. Cromarty medals on display as well as many other military artifacts at the Brandon Armoury. Open on Tuesdays 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 1- 4 p.m.

• The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum — Winter hours are 1-4 p.m, seven days a week. This is Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Open house will take place on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. with presentation of “Two World Wars Plus” at 2 p.m.

• The Arts West Travelling Gallery — The 2012-13 travelling gallery is on display at the Souris Library.

• The Brandon General Museum and Archives — On the ground floor of the old Manitoba Telephone building at 19 Ninth St. We have hired Curator Mark Veneziano from Ontario and he will commence his duties on Nov. 15. Hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Admission is free. Currently on display is “Time Pieces: Images of Brandon”.

• Nov. 12 — Brandon University School of Music presents Chris Donnelly Trio at The Music Studio at 8 p.m. Admission charge.

• Nov. 12 — Kaleidoscope Concerts Neepawa presents “Jake’s Gift”, a powerful and surprisingly funny one-act play about a Canadian Second World War veteran who returns to Normandy for the 60th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, at the Roxy Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Viscount Cultural Centre in Neepawa or by calling 204-476-3232.

• Nov. 13 — Virden Community Arts Council presents “Jake’s Gift”, a powerful and surprisingly funny one-act play about a Canadian Second World War veteran who returns to Normandy for the 60th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, at the Virden Aud Theatre at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the VAC office. • Nov. 14 — St. Mary’s Anglican Church is hosting a Fall Supper with sittings at 4:30 and 6 p.m. Adults $12; 6-13 yrs. $6.

• Nov. 15 — Tenor Ben Heppner with John Hess, piano will appear in concert at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium at 8 p.m. Tickets available at the box office or by calling 204-728-9510 or buy online at ticketturtle.com.

• Nov. 17 — Come out and get into the spirit of the holidays as local charities, merchants and schools come together to present the Wealth Planning Group, Brandon Santa Parade at 6 p.m. Parade starts at the corner of Sixth Street and Rosser Avenue and continues down Rosser to 17th Street, up 17th to Princess Avenue and back to 6th Street and Rosser Avenue. Help support Canada Post in their food drive and bring a non-perishable item to donate. They will be picked up during the parade. Food donations are for Christmas Cheer. They will also be picking up letters for Santa! Brandon City Transit will be offering free bus rides the day of the parade from 4 p.m. to midnight on all bus routes.

• Nov. 17 — Trinity United Church presentsStrathclair Theatre Chorus - Journey Home at 7 p.m. Refreshments to follow. Tickets are $20 and available at the church office or by calling 204-728-4796 or 204-729-8574.

• Nov. 17 — Seniors for Seniors celebrates 30 years! Meet and greet at 5:30 p.m. followed by a buffet at 6 p.m. and slide presentation. Advance tickets are $20 available by calling 204-571-2050.

• Nov. 18 — Onanole Fall Supper will be held in the Onanole Recreation Centre from 5-7 p.m. Adults $12; children 5-12 yrs. $5 and children under five are free.

• Nov. 20 — Seniors for Seniors Christmas Tea and Bake Sale will take place from 2-4 p.m. Tickets: $7. Advance tickets only by calling 204-571-2050.

• Nov. 22 — Canadian Diabetes Association is holding a Fundraiser Sud, Spud and Steak event at The 40 in the Trails West Inn. Doors open at 5 p.m.; supper at 6 p.m. Silent auction. Tickets are $20. Proceeds to support the work of the Canadian Diabetes Association. Call 204-728-2382 to reserve your ticket.

• Nov. 23 — United Way of Brandon and District present the 4th annual Community Fun Lunchat the Victoria Inn in the Grand Salon from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Spaghetti lunch and entertainment. Only $10 per ticket.
