Mounties say that the busts are the result of a joint three-month investigation between the RCMP's Winnipeg drug section and the Ste. Rose detachment. Officers raided the two properties, in the RM of Alonsa, on Wednesday, Aug. 8.

More than 200 marijuana plants were found growing outdoors at a property near Crane River. Police also searched a home on the property where they found and seized 14 guns.

Another gun, plus 725 more marijuana plants — along with about 20 pounds of already processed marijuana — was found and seized at a property near Cayer.

Police say that the street value of the marijuana is estimated at $1.3 million.

Two people, a 49-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman, were arrested at the Crane River property, and will face drugs and weapons charges.

A 55-year-old Cayer man and a 26-year-old Winnipeg man were arrested at the Cayer property. They will face similar charges.

A third man, 42-year-old Michael John McKinnon, of no fixed address, was also arrested during the Cayer bust, and has been charged with growing marijuana and with possession for the purpose of trafficking. He remains in custody and will appear in Dauphin court on Aug. 14.

The other four people have been released, and will appear in Dauphin court on Oct. 17.

Police say they continue to investigate.
