18 guns, some stolen, seized from Sandy Bay home
At least three stolen guns were seized from Sandy Bay yesterday, after a police team raided a home on the First Nation.
Mounties from multiple detachments participated in the raid, backed by police dogs and an emergency response team. They turned up 18 long guns — including three that were confirmed to have been stolen — and various types of ammunition.
John Elliott Spence, 33, of Sandy Bay First Nation, was arrested and has been charged with 18 counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime and four counts of possession of a weapon obtained by crime of an offence.
Charges are also pending against another adult male and two adult females.
Spence remains in custody and was scheduled to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court today.
Police continue to investigate.
