Brandon's two-horse mayoral race has now expanded to three.
Mark Kovatch, 54, filed his papers on Thursday.
"I’ve been planning on going into public service for a long time, but I wanted to wait till I finished raising my kids and making sure they were set for themselves," he said.
Now that his youngest son is entering Brandon University, Kovatch said it's time to put his hat in the ring.
Kovatch is married with five children. The family moved to Brandon in 2007, when they purchased Curran Park. Kovatch is the owner/operater of Turtle Crossing campground.
Kovatch joins incumbent Mayor Shari Decter Hirst and Rick Chrest in the running for the mayor's seat.
