Alleged thief charged, but snowmobile still missing

Police in Dauphin say they've tracked down and charged the man they believe stole a snowmobile over the weekend, but they still haven't been able to find the missing sled.

The snowmobile was reported stolen early Saturday morning from the back yard of a home on Merrell Avenue in Dauphin. The black Yamaha VMax 500 XT had probably been taken within an hour of the report, police say.

Officers with the Dauphin municipal RCMP say they were quickly able to identify a suspect, and they arrested a 25-year-old Dauphin man later in the day.

However, the stolen snowmobile has still not been found. Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the Dauphin RCMP at 204-622-5020.

Meanwhile, Leroy Christopher Thompson has been charged with theft under $5,000 and breach of recognizance. He was held for the weekend to appear in Dauphin court Tuesday.

The snowmobile has not yet been recovered. Anyone with information on this theft is asked to call the Dauphin RCMP at (204) 622-5020.
