At least six vehicles involved in string of crashes

Police are telling drivers to slow down and be careful after a series of crashes in the city and on the highways — including one string of incidents near Oak Lake that involved six vehicles.

Melita RCMP say that they were first called to the Trans-Canada Highway about three kilometres east of the Oak Lake turnoff at about 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

They say a pickup truck rear-ended a semi-trailer, and three other vehicles that tried to avoid the crash ended up in the ditch. Officers at the scene began diverting traffic to a nearby service road, but a semi trailer went off the road there, too, blocking the detour route.

There are no injuries reported from any of the related crashes, but RCMP officers remain on scene and motorists are advised to expect delays.
