BSD flirting with 4% tax hike

The Brandon School Division said it requires a four per cent "worst case scenario" tax increase even though it is set to receive a two per cent funding hike from the province.

After it factored in enrollment growth for next year and no additional staffing, programs or services, the division said it would have a $1.3 million deficit, according to an evening press release.

A four per cent hike means a an increase of $60.42 per year for a house assessed at $220,000.

The division will hold a public budget forum on Feb.12 at 7 p.m. at École Harrison. Trustees will meet on Feb. 18 for the all-day budget meeting.

There should not be two ways of funding anything! I get hosed paying taxes to the province to fund schools then again get screwed by the school division funding their pet projects! Completely screwed up system but thats the government!
