Beer prices to climb Friday; liquor prices to follow in April

It'll cost more to fill those pint glasses starting March 8.

It will cost you two bucks more a dozen for most beer brands starting Friday.

The cost of most popular brands of beer, such as Budweiser and Molson Canadian, will go up by $2 due to a a combined increase in the MLCC’s markup, supplier increase, licensee markup, bottle deposits and related provincial sales tax.

An MLCC press release said "the combination of supplier and MLCC increases means that popular beer brands such as Budweiser and Molson Canadian will increase in price from $21.75 to $23.75 per 12-pack, including sales taxes and bottle deposits."

The MLCC will also be increasing the price of spirits by $0.622/litre as of April 1. That translates to at least a 47-cent increase on a 750ml bottle.

Suppliers have submitted price adjustments that are not part of the MLCC increase and could result in a further increase.

Consumers can go to www.liquormarts.ca on April 1 to review the final prices of spirits.
