Big backups after morning crashes on Trans-Canada

The Trans-Canada is open again this afternoon after a series of morning crashes that closed it for nearly two hours.

Emergency workers were called to the two-vehicle crash at about 10:15 a.m. this morning. The crash, which happened about two miles west of MacGregor, forced the closure of both westbound lanes of the highway until just past noon.

Police haven't released any information about the cause or severity of the crash, nor whether anyone was injured.

However, poor visibility and slippery roads combined with the resulting traffic snarl caused two more crashes in the area. At one point, westbound traffic was at a standstill, and backed up at least two miles on the highway.
