The investigation into the October death of an inmate at the Brandon Correctional Centre has concluded that it wasn't criminal, police say.
Thirty-nine-year-old Jean Paul Beaumont, a high-ranking member of the Rock Machine outlaw motorcycle gang, was found dead by jail staff in a cell in Unit C at approximately 10 a.m. on Oct. 14.
Beaumont, a long-standing Manitoba biker, had been linked to the Hells Angels in the past through his membership with the Zig Zag Crew — a so-called "feeder" organization.
But he abandoned the gang last year only to emerge as the sergeant-at-arms of the Rock Machine, a rival gang to the Hells Angels.
Sources originally said that Beaumont was believed to have been stabbed, but police later said that wasn't the case.
A cause of death has not been released. Police say they won't be releasing any further information, and cite privacy concerns.
