Boissevain student receives award from Premier
A Boissevain student is one of 10 from across the province being honoured by the premier with healthy living awards.
Michelle Coupland, a Grade 12 student at Boissevain School, was presented with the award by Premier Greg Selinger in a ceremony at th Legislative building today.
For the past two years, Coupland has volunteered with an anti-bullying program called Club Ophilia. As a mentor, she teaches young girls in her school about the effects of bullying and negative relationships.
Coupland is also involved with the International Peace Garden Relay for Life, which helps raise money for cancer research. In addition, she is a cooking instructor with Girls Adventure Club where she teaches girls aged five to 14 how to prepare quick and healthy snacks.
"Each of our award winners has worked tirelessly to help build stronger schools and stronger communities," Selinger said. "Their remarkable dedication and achievements are an inspiration to their peers and to all Manitobans."
The other nine recipients of this year's healthy living awards for youth are:
- Betelhem Chala, Elmwood High School, Winnipeg;
