A woman is dead and a man in hospital after a fire in Boissevain early Tuesday morning. Firefighters say it took four hours to extinguish the blaze.

One woman is dead and a man has been hospitalized following a house fire in Boissevain on Tuesday morning.

Boissevain RCMP confirmed that emergency crews found the remains of a woman in a small one-storey home on Peters Street in Boissevain, after a fire broke out in the building earlier at 1:50 a.m. this morning. It was eventually doused at about 6 a.m.

A cause for the blaze has not yet been determined, though RCMP say it does not appear to be suspicious. The Office of the Fire Commission remains at the home, but the investigation is being hampered by the frigid temperatures.

A man whom RCMP identified as the husband of the deceased was taken to hospital with unknown injuries. The couple lived in the home, police say.

The Brandon Sun has a reporter at the scene. This story will be updated.
