The Blue Bombers unveiled their new helmet and primary logo Tuesday, electing to keep things simple and familiar with a return to a single letter.
The Bombers unveiled a new logo and helmet design this morning. New team uniforms -- a league-wide initiative for this season -- are scheduled to be revealed next week.
Winnipeg is keeping the classic gold helmet and bringing back the old white "W" – the logo that has become a trademark of the franchise through much of its 83-year history. The club will wear the new helmets starting this season.
The Bombers have been wearing different variations of the "lightning bolt" logo on its helmets since the 1995 season, the year they moved away from the white block ‘W’ symbol.
A return to the old logo is not only a move back to tradition; it also holds an element of superstition to it. While the Bombers haven’t won anything with the "lightning bolt" logo, they have earned Grey Cups with the "W" logo in 1962, 1984, 1988 and 1990 – success the club hopes to return to again.
There are a few minor tweaks to the logo and helmets, including a navy blue border around the "W" and navy blue face masks.
The Bombers are scheduled to unveil their new home and away jerseys on May 1 at the Pan-Am Boxing Club. All eight CFL clubs will be wearing new uniforms for the 2012 season.
