Dreaming of a white Christmas? You've got a pretty good chance in Brandon.

Environment Canada says that Brandon is the 11th most-likely major centre in Canada to enjoy a white Christmas, with a 93 per cent chance of having at least two centimetres of snow on the ground for Christmas morning.

That's based on nearly six decades of weather records that Environment Canada looked at, for 39 major centres across the country.

However, kids today don't have it as good as their parents did.

There's only a 90 per cent chance of a white Christmas in Brandon when looking at the data since 1992. By comparison, during the years 1963–82, Environment Canada says that Brandon parents had a 95 per cent chance of a white Christmas.

However, when today's kids do get a white Christmas, it tends to be a lot snowier in recent years.

The average depth of snow on Christmas morning in Brandon is 19 cm since 1992. That's seventh-deepest in the country. Between 1963–82, it averaged only 9 cm.

So far this year, there is 11 cm of snow on the ground in Brandon, with more in the forecast before Christmas.

Environment Canada has also calculated the historical chances of getting what they call a "perfect Christmas" — meaning at least 2 cm of snow on the ground, plus some amount of measurable snowfall during the day.

In Brandon, there is a 28 per cent chance of a perfect Christmas in any given year.
