City police arrested a 16-year-old Brandon youth following a vehicle theft in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The vehicle was located approximately five minutes after being reported stolen in the 2400 block of Richmond Avenue. The keys were in the vehicle at the time it was taken.

The driver fled the vehicle when police initiated the stop in the area of Lily Crescent. He was located behind Shoppers Drug Mart on 18th Street with help from the canine unit.

The driver was taken to the Brandon hospital to be treated for a dog bite on his leg. He was then detained and charged with Theft of Motor Vehicle, Resist Arrest and Flight from Police.

He is expected to appear in court on July 7.
