A child sits on her father's shoulders at a previous event at CFB Shilo. The base has just added 28 new day-care spaces.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official opening of a new natural playspace and the expansion of CFB Shilo’s day-care centre takes place Friday at the base.

A total of 28 new day-care spaces were added to the facility, a spokesperson said in a release.

The space was created within the existing building area. The natural play-space provides a playground area incorporating as many natural elements as possible.

As well, three employees of the Daycare Centre were recently awarded a Certificate of Achievement for the 2012 Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Early Childhood Educations.

They are three of only 27 to receive this award in Canada this year.
