Chamber of Commerce wants to hear from businesses on Sunday shopping
The province has announced a review of Sunday shopping legislation and has asked for public input.
To address factors such as cross-border shopping, the Internet and consumer demands for more freedom of choice, the province is considering relaxing restrictions for Sunday shopping.
Labour Minister Jennifer Howard announced that a committee comprised of representatives of business and labour will be asked to review the issue and make recommendations to government. It, too, is expected to report back within a few weeks.
The province has also asked Manitobans to make their views known on the controversial subject, setting a three-week deadline (May 11) for responses.
The Brandon Chamber of Commerce is holding a meeting on May 1, at 9:30 a.m. at the chamber office – 1043 Rosser Ave. – for those retailers interested in participating in a discussion on the possible changes and impact for businesses.
If you are interested in attending, please RSVP by Monday, April 30, by calling the chamber office at 571-5340.
If you are unable to attend, please forward your comments regarding Sunday shopping to gm@brandonchamber.ca.

Bravo, bravo, bravo!
This is indeed DEMOCRACY in action.
Let the retailers of Brandon tell the Chamber of Commerce and the Province of Manitoba what THEY want to see happen regarding Sunday shopping.
I hope that there will be a LARGE turnout and I hope that the retailers of Brandon will STAND UP, be heard and express their personal opinions regarding this matter.
Retailers of Brandon, ARISE and let your voices be heard regarding this proposal by the province.
What is YOUR opinion regarding this matter?
Are you in favour of this proposal and if so why?
Are you not in favour of this proposal and if so why not?
Retailers of Brandon, RISE UP and have your say now via your attendance at the Chamber office on May 1st or by expressing and forwarding your opinions and feedback to gm@brandonchamber.ca.
GO, retailers of Brandon, go!
FINALLY, the Chamber of Commerce is giving ALL of you an equal opportunity to have YOUR say and input into this decision.
Involvement, engagement of the retailing community, who will be DIRECTLY affected by this decision is a VERY GOOD thing indeed.
WAY TO GO, Brandon Chamber of Commerce!
This is a VERY mature, proactive thing to do for the retailers of Brandon.
I just hope that MANY retailers within Brandon will take ADVANTAGE of this opportunity for ENGAGEMENT, now.
EACH of their decisions count, they MATTER and they can make ALL the difference!
I am SO VERY PROUD of the Brandon Chamber of Commerce right now!
BRAVO, indeed!
