Brandon Sun - ONLINE EDITION

Chillier day today, warm again tomorrow

It's actually below normal, but it will feel pretty warm, as Brandon continues to thaw out from a deep freeze earlier this month.

Environment Canada is calling for a high of -12ºC today — that'sabout 10 degrees cooler than yesterday, but 10 degrees warmer than the two weeks prior.

Today will start out sunny, but increasing cloudiness is expected through the afternoon. Mainly cloudy skies tonight will herald a 70 per cent chance of light snow this evening. The evening low will be -13ºC, then temperatures will rise overnight to -6ºC by tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow should be cloudy, with a few flurries in the morning and ending in the afternoon. Winds will pick up, too, with north winds at 30 km/h in the morning, gusting to 50 km/h. The afternoon high wil be -5ºC but at times the wind chill could be -25.

Skies should clear tomorrow late in the afternoon, and winds should die off in the evening, but temperatures will be a lot cooler after that.

Thursday should see sunny skies with a high of -20ºC, followed by continuing sun and a high of -15ºC on Friday.

The weekend will be a deep chill. Saturday and Sunday are both predicted to be sunny, with daytime highs around -23ºC.

At this point, Monday looks to be a mix of sun and cloud, with a high of -14ºC.

The normal high for this time of year is -10ºC. The normal low is -20ºC.

The warmest it's ever been on this date was in 1997, when it was 7.7ºC. The coldest ever was in 1956, when it was -36.7ºC.
