Staff from the city are already out clearing snow from the streets; however intersections like this one are technically highways and are the province's responsibility.

City crews are working 12-hours today to get the roads clear as quickly as possible.

With record-setting snow — possibly as much as 25 cm — expected to fall today, the city is asking citizens for as much cooperation as possible.

An overnight parking ban will be in effect tonight on all snow routes. That means no parking on:

  • Rosser Avenue from 13th Street East all the way to 34th Street
  • Princess Avenue from 13th Street East all the way to Whillier Drive
  • Ninth Street from Pacific Avenue to Princess Avenue
  • 10th Street from Pacific Avenue to Princess Avenue
  • Louise Avenue from 13th Street to 18th Street

Full details on the parking bans are available here.

First up for city workers are their priority one streets, which are primarily arterial and collector streets, city bus routes and some selected residential streets.

Priority two streets don't always get plowed, but with snowfall amounts over 13 cm, the city says that a snow-plowing program will get triggered. These streets are generally cleared about 24 hours after the priority one streets.

At the bottom of the list are back lanes, which are cleared the day before scheduled garbage pickup.

Some of Brandon's biggest streets, like 18th Street, Victoria Avenue and portions of First Street and Richmond Avenue, fall under provincial jurisdiction.

There are also a number of private streets in Brandon that are the responsibility of the developer or the property owner to clear.
