City tax bills are in the mail

City taxes are due at the end of June — and Brandon homeowners should be seeing bills in their mailboxes this week.

The city says that tax bills were being mailed out today, and will include informational leaflets to tell people about the city's 2012 budget and the property tax mill rate.

City taxes are due by the end of business on Friday, June 29 and "lost in the mail" isn't an excuse — owners are responsible for paying up, whether they receive a bill or not.

Property owners who don't receive a bill by May 31 should contact the city at 729-2228.

To sweeten the pot, the city offers a half-percentage point discount for earlybird payments (received before May 31). But any tax bill paid after the deadline is subject to a 1.25 per cent penalty per month.

Taxes can be mailed in, or paid in person — even with a post-dated cheque — or by automatic monthly bank withdrawals.

More information is available online at the city's tax page.
