City to start cleaning water mains

Brandon is about to start cleaning its water pipes. Through the summer and early fall, city crews will be flushing out water mains. The program will run in phases from June 4 to Nov. 4 and helps maintain the quality of the water that's delivered.

The first area to be cleaned will be from Victoria Avenue to Pacific Avenue, between 26th Street and Governor's Road. In total, that should take about a month, according to the city, but precise locations will be advertised in the Brandon Sun and signs will also be placed on affected streets.

Flushing of the mains will take place Monday to Friday from 8 a.m to 4 p.m. and residents can't use water while the work is going on.

If discoloured water happens to come through, residents should allow it to run until the water becomes clear. If that doesn't happen after two to three hours, call the city at 729-2285.
