Clerk beaten during beer robbery

Two people robbed a beer vendor this morning, punching the clerk and leaving the him lying on the floor, police say.

Officers were called at about 12:40 a.m., by an employee of a motel along the south end of 18th Street. A few minutes earlier, they say, two people had entered the beer vendor, one of them throwing the clerk to the floor and punching him several times, before making off with beer and cigarettes.

The suspects are described as aboriginal in appearance, with both wearing jeans and dark hoodies. Patrols of the area failed to turn up any suspects.

Police say they continue to investigate.
