Cold again today, but end in sight

It's another bitterly cold day today — with several more in store — but relief is on the horizon.

Environment Canada is calling for sunny skies today, but a high of just -20ºC. An extreme wind chill of -43 this morning should ease as the wind drops late this morning.

Partly cloudy skies are anticipated tonight, with a 30 per cent chance of flurries early this evening, followed by an overnight low of -26ºC.

Increasingly cloudiness is expected tomorrow morning with periods of snow beginning in the afternoon. An easterly wind at 20 km/h will pick up early in the evening. Tomorrow's high will be -15ºC, but it'll get colder again after that.

There's a 60 per cent chance of flurries continuing Friday, wth a high of -23ºC.

A mix of sun and cloud is expected on Saturday, with a high of -21ºC, then another cloudy day on Sunday, with a period of snow and a high of -18ºC.

Warmer air returns next week, according to the outlook, with a mix of sun and cloud on both Monday and Tuesday, with highs of -6ºC both afternoons.

The normal high for this time of year is -9ºC; the normal low is -19ºC.

The coldest it's ever been on this date was in 1975, when it was -31.7ºC. The warmest ever was in 1943, when it hit 5ºC.
