Cold start to the weekend

In several communities around Riding Mountain National Park, residents woke up to a white reminder that it's unseasonably cold heading into the weekend.

There were reports of snow on the ground this morning in Russell, Rossburn, Shoal Lake and Waywayseecappo, as well as in Moosomin.

Things aren't about to warm up much, unfortunately.

In Brandon, which escaped any snow, the forecast high for this afternoon will just barely reach the normal low for this time of year. Under cloudy skies with a 40 per cent chance of showers, the mercury will struggle to hit 8 C today.

Overnight, skies will be mainly cloudy, and temperatures will drop to just 2 C — frighteningly close to freezing, although a frost hadn't yet been issued by Environment Canada.

For tomorrow, there's a good chance of more rain, with a high of just 11 C. And rain will continue on Sunday, with a high of 9 C and a low of of 5 C.

Cool, wet weather is expected to continue early next week, too. Monday and Tuesday are predicted to have highs of about 12 C, with a continuing chance of showers.

The normal high for this time of year is 21 C. The normal low is 8 C.
