Brandon Sun - ONLINE EDITION

Cold today, colder tomorrow, cold all next week

Winter is well and truly here now.

The city is extending a parking ban so it can clear snow from downtown snow routes, and the chill that's in the air has turned from frosty all the way to frigid.

Environment Canada is calling for a high of -21ºC this afternoon, with northwest winds at 20 km/h enough to push the wind chill to -36 at times.

There's a small chance of flurries today and tonight, with a mix of sun and cloud through the day.

Temperatures will drop to -29ºC overnight, and tomorrow will dawn crisp and cold again.

Mainly sunny skies are expected tomorrow, with a high of -24ºC.

Sun is in the forecast for Sunday and most of next week, but the cold temperatures will linger.

The Sunday high is forecast to be -22ºC, then it is a string of near-identical days, with sunny skies and a high of -21ºC forecast for Monday through Thursday.

Overnight lows for the next week will be between -26ºC and -30ºC.

The normal low for this time of year is -17ºC. The normal high is -8ºC.

The coldest it's ever been on this date was in 1976, when it was -35.6ºC. The warmest ever was in 1981, when it was 5.6ºC.
