A short high-speed chase through residential streets wasn't enough to elude the police, and neither was ditching the vehicle and trying to run.
The chase started Sunday evening just past 6 p.m., when officers tried to pull over a vehicle in the 900-block of Lorne Avenue. The driver, a man who was the only one in the car, didn't stop, and instead sped off.
Police say he reached speeds of more than 90 km/h through residential areas, as he passed other vehicles in his attempt to get away.
After a few blocks, though, the driver swerved abruptly into a driveway in the 400-block of Sixth Street, where he bailed from the vehicle and tried to run off.
He was quickly arrested.
A 19-year-year-old Brandon man has been charged with dangerous driving and flight from police, as well as with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without insurance, and driving while disqualified.
He's since been released from custody, but has a date in court on Sept. 15.
