Credit unions back on line after technical troubles

Manitoba’s credit unions are back on line and IT experts are working on a permanent fix to the problem that took the system off line this morning.

The outage today was not the first; another outage Saturday took the system off line for two hours, a spokesman for the Credit Union Central of Manitoba said.

The problem was a faulty fire wall in both cases: "There won’t be any outages. They’re working on it right now," said the credit unions spokesman John Hamilton. "They’re going to fix it permanently."

Reports earlier that gauged the extent of the impact were in error, the spokesman said.

The outage did not impact debit card use at point of sale and it didn’t affect cash access at ATMs. The outage blocked any direct access to accounts for some tellers at credit unions. It took less than an hour to fix the problem this morning, the chief technology officer for the system said this morning.
