A helicopter being used to spray crops near Russell crashed in a field this morning.

Police say the pilot was able to walk to a nearby farmhouse for help, but was taken to hospital for treatment of undetermined injuries.

Emergency workers were called at about 11 a.m. to a field about 6 km south of Silverton, which is about 8 km east of Russell. The Bell 206 Jet Ranger, owned by a company from North Bay, Ont., was destroyed upon impact in the field.

It appears the pilot lost control while spraying, and plummeted to the ground. The male pilot was the only person in the helicopter.

RCMP and Transport Canada continue to investigate. No further details are available at this time.
