Decision on conflict of interest breach likely next week

A legal opinion on whether Brandon Mayor Shari Decter Hirst breached conflict of interest law is not expected before the end of the week, deputy city clerk Heather Ewasiuk said.

The city clerk’s office had sought a legal opinion on whether Decter Hirst had followed the law with respect to her dealings with Renaissance Brandon and the Strand Theatre project.

The request for the legal opinion was made last week, and is a process normally used once or twice during a four-year term.

Before the weekend a councillor had stated that this report was ready for perusal over the weekend, now it will be ready in another weeks time. Despite hiring a director of communications they still cannot get the facts right.
