A woman who dined and dashed from a city pub will pay double the bill in the end, thanks to a hefty fine.

She was one of three women who downed $160 worth of liquor and food and ran for it. But, she was the only one caught when she returned to retrieve her forgotten purse.

Crown attorney Deidre Badcock said it wasn’t exactly a crime of necessity.

"It’s not her taking a sandwich because she’s hungry and then coming back and saying i have no money for it," Badcock said as the dasher was sentenced on Monday.

Kyla Anne MacMillan entered a quick same-day plea on Monday to fraudulently obtaining food.

City cops were called just after midnight on Monday by staff at Tavern United at the Canad Inns.

Three women had been dining and drinking at the bar. They ate wings and nachos and downed 23 shots — six shots of tequila, 10 B-52s, six Dirty Hookers, and one vodka shot — plus a pitcher of beer.

The bill came to $141.57. That’s $160.09, including taxes.

Badcock said MacMillan claimed she was going to the ATM outside the pub, but didn’t.

Police said all three women ducked out without paying.

But, defence lawyer Ryan Fawcett told court, MacMillan got caught when she returned because she’d dropped her purse which had her medication in it.

Fawcett said 27-year-old MacMillan, who’s from Red Deer Alta., had previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She arrived here in Brandon two weeks ago, but hasn’t been taking her medication despite having it with her.

MacMillan, who’s unemployed, had $5.35 on her, and her bank account balance was at zero.

Judge Donovan Dvorak fined her $250 (plus costs of $75) and ordered her to pay the $160 restitution.
