Does federal riding need a new name?
Robert Sopuck (FILE PHOTO)
A Westman MP says it's time to rename the riding he represents, and he's asking for constituent suggestions.
The official current name of Convervative MP Robert Sopuck's riding is Dauphin–Swan River–Marquette, with two hyphens and a space adding confusion.
"I have heard from many constituents that a new name could better reflect all of the communities in the constituency," Sopuck said. "I want to make sure constituents know about the opportunity to make suggestions for a new name for this beautiful riding where we have mountains, and rolling hills surrounded by prairies filled with many strong rural communities."
There are consultations coming up with the Electoral Boundaries Commission, and Sopuck is encouraging consitituents to contact them with ideas for a new name.
The riding currently stretches from Lake Manitoba to the Saskatchewan Border and includes most of the communities surrounding Riding Mountain National Park north of the Trans-Canada Highway and along the Yellowhead Route. It also stretches all the way north through the Swan Valley following Highway number 10 to Red Deer Lake.

first thing mr. sopuck should do is learn a little of the riding's historical background before changing the name of the riding which he knows little about
