Driver who hit pedestrian thought it was wildlife
Police say that the Brandon man who was driving a semi truck in eastern Manitoba first thought he hit an animal — before realizing he had actually struck a person.
The collision happened shortly after 1 a.m. this morning on Highway 52, about four miles east of Steinbach. RCMP said that the victim was a 19-year-old Steinbach man who may have been walking on the road. His name is not being released.
The highway was closed for about four hours this morning as police investigated. They say it appears the driver, a 39-year-old Brandon man, was westbound on the highway when the collision happened. At first thinking he had hit wildlife, he didn't stop until a short distance later, when he realized it had actually been a pedestrian.
Police say the driver was not under the influence of alcohol, but the Steinbach RCMP continue to investigate, along with a traffic reconstructionist.

Unfortunately, suicide by semi is not that uncommon. A dash out of the ditch into the path of a semi would be much like a deer. I'm not ready to condemn the driver just yet.

I can see how someone can mistake an upright bipedal humanoid with clothing on for "wildlife".
What did he think he hit?
Bigfoot?
Snooki from Jersey Shore?
