Water pours down the spillway from the Rivers Reservoir into the Little Saskatchewan River just southeast of Rivers on Monday. A Rivers woman and a Brandon man are dead after an ATV accident at the spillway on Saturday.

The body of a Brandon man who was knocked into fast-moving water at the Rivers spillway has been found about a mile downstream.

An RCMP release Tuesday morning confirmed that a search team found the man's body slightly submerged in the water, about a kilometre and a half from where he was knocked into the spillway by a woman who lost control of her ATV on Saturday evening.

The Rivers woman driving the ATV was also killed. She was attempting trying to drive down a steep embankment when she lost control, striking the Brandon man, who was fishing at the time.

"Speaking to the members and people who are familiar with the area … it is quite a challenging decline to get down," said Manitoba RCMP spokesperson Tara Seel. "We’re still in the initial parts of our investigation, but our understanding is that she did strike a barricade of some sort that’s out there."
