Drunk driver steals car, crashes
An 18-year-old Shilo man has been arrested for choking his girlfriend and fleeing in her car before crashing it in the RM of Cornwallis.
Around 3 a.m. on Sunday morning, a police investigation revealed the female victim was arguing with the man because she felt he should not drive because he had been drinking.
After trying to prevent him from getting behind the wheel, the suspect grabbed her around the throat and choked her then drove away, according to police.
The altercation occurred on the 1100 block on 18th Street in Brandon.
The man was located after RCMP responded to a car accident at 4: 30 a.m. in the RM of Cornwallis.
The man spent a night at the Brandon Correctional Centre, and is facing charges of choking to overcome resistance and theft of motor vehicle.
He is slated to appear in court today.
