Drunks ring in the New Year; keep police busy

At least nine people were arrested and several people charged as New Year’s celebrations kept Brandon police busy.

Shortly before 4 a.m. on Jan. 1, officers were called to a south west residence after a father and son were in a fight.

Upon arrival police learned the son showed up at the residence drunk and threatened to kill his father which led to a fight.

A witness also reported that the son crashed his truck into a tree in the 3000 block of Park Avenue on the way to his father’s residence. He has been charged with impaired driving and uttering threats of death. He was taken to Brandon Correctional Centre and lodged until he sobered up.

At about the same time, police stopped a vehicle in the 1500 block of McTavish Avenue after the driver hit a parked vehicle and failed to stop.

The driver refused a breath sample but did show signed of impaired driving

He was charged with impaired driving and several other traffic offences.
