Environment Canada: ‘Messy day’ for Westman

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for most of southwestern Manitoba, warning that a system coming in from the United States could makes for a miserable day today.

Forecasters specifically say that the system tracking in from the Dakotas will make today a "messy day with rain or snow" through Westman.

Weather radar shows the system, carrying a large amount of precipitation heading into Westman, at around 11 a.m.

Most of the precipitation is expected to fall as rain, with Brandon in store for 5–10 mm, but some areas could get bursts of up to 20 mm.

Also, areas of cooler temperatures or higher elevations could see snow instead of rain, with 5–10 cm of snow possible through today.

In southern Saskatchewan this morning, there were widespread accumulations of 5 cm of snow, with some areas getting around 10 cm. A rain and snow mix is expected to continue there for 12–24 hours.

The full Westman forecast calls for below-normal temperatures through at least the next week.
