One man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and around 106 residents of Hobbs Manor were evacuated from their apartments Saturday morning after a fire broke out on the fourth floor.

The man sustained minor burns and was eventually transported to a Winnipeg hospital.

Police say some people had to be carried from their apartments.

The residents of the retirement home located at the corner of 15th Street and Lorne Avenue were evacuated to the main floor, but were back in their apartments by early afternoon.

Three city buses were also on standby waiting to transport residents to Seniors for Seniors as part of the manor's emergency plan, however they were not used. As of late Saturday morning, fire crews had blocked off 15th Street and several emergency crews were still on scene until around noon time.
