Flood-affected businesses get planning help

Brandon businesses battered by last year's rising floodwaters and forced evacuations will get a helping hand this year.

With $100,000 from the provincial government, these local businesses will have the chance to craft business continuity plans, helping them stay afloat in case disaster strikes again.

Economic Development Brandon has chosen MNP to work directly with flood-affected businesses, providing expertise and consulting to help create and implement their plans.

MNP, itself a Brandon business, will work directly with participating businesses in a one-on-one confidential manner over the course of the next six or seven months. They'll develop customized and functional business continuity plans for each business while minimizing, as much as possible, demands on business owners and key personnel. The plans wlll be tailored to fit individual business needs and be unique to each business.

It's not just for future floods, either.

"There are countless other incidents that could disrupt and impact businesses," said Sandy Trudel, the city's director of Economic Development, adding that proactive planning could help businesses continue to function through any disruption.

The program comes at no cost to participating businesses.
