Former Brandon group home worker arrested for '80s sex assaults
Brandon Police Service
A man previously convicted of sexual assaults at a Brandon group home has been arrested and charged after new allegations that date back to the 1980s.
Lionel Norman McCullough, now 49, was arrested in Vancouver earlier this week, and is expected to be brought back to Brandon today, where he will face a number of sexual assault-related charges.
McCullough, then an employee of Child and Family Services, was convicted in 1988 of three counts of sexual assault on residents of a Brandon group home.
But police say a new investigation was sparked in May 2012, when a victim came forward to report that they had also been sexually assaulted, while living at the same group home.
The Brandon Police Service say they began a lengthy investigation into this new allegation and made extensive checks for other possible victims — eventually locating three victims, including the person making the complaint, who had allegedly been assaulted by the suspect between 1984–88.
A Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued on Dec. 17 for McCullough, who was believed to be living in British Columbia. He was located and arrested by the Vancouver Police Department on Monday.
He will face charges including sexual assault, administering a noxious substance and overcoming resistance to commit an offence.
Police say they have been working closely with Child and Family Services through the investigation.
