Former fire hall up for sale

The former fire hall on Princess Avenue is up for sale.

The city is looking for people interested in owning the historic downtown fire hall. Firefighters are now housed in a brand-new building near 18th Street, and the building is vacant.

Touted during the 2010 municipal elections as the possible site for a brewpub, the fire hall was also looked at for the Brandon General Museum.

Possible uses for a former fire hall:

Museum
Office space
Brewpub
Casino
Ghostbusters headquarters

Renovations to prepare it for museum and office space were estimated in 2007 to be between $2.5–3.5 million. The assessed value of the building itself is $370,000 and estimated commercial taxes would be a little over $17,000.

Would-be buyers can download the city's official request for proposals from the purchasing and tenders area of their website.

Interested parties have until the end of August to submit proposals, which must come with a $10,000 deposit. The city says it will take up to 60 days to evaluate proposals before a recommendation comes to council.
