Free buses return on New Year's Eve

Brandon Transit will be running hourly buses on New Year's Eve — free into the wee hours — to give people an option for a safe ride home after celebrating the midnight countdown.

The buses will run once an hour from 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 until 3 a.m. on Jan. 1, and there will be no charge to hop on or off any regular stop.

It's the third year for the free New Year's Eve buses. About 970 riders used it in the first year, 2011, and about 700 used it last year.

"We’re proud to continue offering the service each year to help ensure people are making safe transportation choices on New Year’s Eve," said Timothy Sanderson, the city's director of transportation services

The service is partly sponsored by Manitoba Public Insurance, with media partners including the Brandon Sun stepping in to provide advertising support. Radio stations CKLQ, Star FM, BOB FM and The Farm are also supporters.

Brandon Transit routes can be planed from Google Maps, or viewed online at brandontransit.ca.
