BRANDON -- The funeral service for four Waskada residents killed in an airplane crash last weekend will take place Monday at 2 p.m. at the Jolly Construction shop, located just south of the village, according to a friend of the families.
Darren Spence, 37, his two sons, Gage, 10, and Logan, 9, and their friend Dawson Pentecost, 9, died after the six-seater Cessna 210 that Spence was piloting crashed into a farmer’s field north of Waskada.
There will be a shared service at the shop, which can hold between 600-700 people, according to the family friend.
A fund has been established to help cover the funeral costs for Dawson. Cheques for the Pentecost family can be made out to the Village of Waskada, postal code R0M 2E0.
The Village of Waskada has also set up a special fund in honour of the three young boys killed in Sunday’s plane crash.
The money donated will be used to send kids in the community to summer hockey camps. Donations can be dropped off or mailed to the Waskada Athletic Club.
Spence was involved in a family crop-spraying business. But it's believed he had taken the boys on a pleasure flight Sunday afternoon. By 6 p.m., RCMP were notified the plane was overdue.
The wreckage was found with the help of Canadian Forces search and rescue technicians, who parachuted down to the crash scene.
The three boys had all attended Waskada School.
