Marc Garneau, in the running to be leader of the federal Liberals, will be campaigning in Manitoba this weekend, and he'll be making a Sunday brunch stop in Brandon.
The former astronaut will be at the Smitty's Trans-Canada location on Sunday between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
"To prepare Canada to be globally competitive in the 21st century, we must strike at the heart of the structural challenges facing our economy. We must entice and reward private investment in innovation. In doing so, we will empower the private sector – not the government – to drive Canadian innovation," said Garneau, who skyrocketed to national and international fame as Canada's first astronaut.
Garneau, saying that the center of gravity of the Canadian economy is shifting westward, is focused on the development of an economy diversified across natural resources and creative, knowledge-based sectors.
A Companion of the Order of Canada, Garneau was first elected to Parliament in 2008 as the Liberal MP for Westmount—Ville-Marie. He has served as Liberal Natural Resources critic, House Leader and critic for Industry, Science and Technology.
Also in the race for the federal Liberal leadership is political scion Justin Trudeau, who spoke to about 150 people at Brandon University on Thursday morning.

Actually David Bertschi is currently at the Canad Inns for a meet and greet. So Garneau will be the third.
