Get ready for the heat

For lunch: eggs, fried on the sidewalk?

Even though the U.S. Library of Congress says that frying an egg on the sidewalk is unlikely (you'd have better luck on the hood of a car), it's still going to be plenty hot this week.

Environment Canada is calling for a high of 29 C this afternoon, with sunny skies. A wind of about 20 km/h from the southeast will help keep things a little cool, but the UV index is set to hit 9 today, which is very high.

The Humidex, if you believe that sort of voodoo science, will be 34.

Tonight will partly cloudy, and temperatures will drop to a low of about 15 C, with a 60 per cent chance of thunderstorms before morning.

Some clouds will stick around Tuesday, with a 60 per cent chance of thunderstorms both Tuesday morning and evening. However, that won't dampen the heat. Tomorrow is expected to hit a high of 32 C, and the humidity will create a Humidex of about 41.

High temperatures are expected throughout the rest of the week, too. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are all expected to see a high of 26 C, with completely sunny skies. Heading into the long weekend, both Saturday and Sunday could hit 30 C or higher, again with full-on sun.

The normal high for this time of year is 24 C. The normal low is 12 C.
