Former president of the NDP Brandon-Souris federal riding association Vanessa Hamilton announced this morning her intention to run in the Riverview ward in the upcoming municipal election in Brandon.
"Many people have approached me and encouraged me to run for public office," she said in the press release.
Upon reflection, I do want to invest my time and work hard for the City of Brandon in this capacity. During my term in office I will strive to build public confidence by acting in the best interest of residents."
Hamilton has been involved in various committees and boards such the City of Brandon Poverty Committee and the CancerCare Manitoba board. She is a founding director and past president of the Brandon and District Worker Advocacy Centre Inc. She was recently involved in a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the negative impact of healthcare cuts by the federal government on provinces and municipalities.
"I’m running to be an advocate for residents. With my previous experience on committees and boards I will be a strong and effective voice on city council," said Hamilton.
