Handgun, drugs found in car

Two people face charges after police pulled over a car near the jail last week and found drugs and a handgun inside.

The car, a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire, was checked by police near the Brandon Correctional Centre on Veterans Way at about 11:45 p.m. on Thursday.

When the driver, a Winnipeg woman, was found to be in possession of a small amount of crystal meth, police searched the rest of the car. That's when they found a loaded, small-calibre handgun, as well as a small amount of marijuana.

Both the driver and a male passenger were taken into custody.

A 25-year-old Winnipeg woman is to appear in court on June 14, on a charge of drug possession.

A 22-year-old man from Richer, Man., was to appear in court this morning on charges of drug trafficking, breach of probation, breach of a conditional sentence and numerous firearms offences.
