Heat causes Melita banana to peel

Sunny and Breezy, Melita’s unique 30-foot banana and blue jay statue, are on their way to Heavy Industries in Calgary, Alberta for repairs.
On June 28th, a fire at the recycling depot which was located beside the statue caused blistering on Sunny’s back.
The repair will take between up to three months.
Heavy Industries developed the design and built the statue, which was unveiled in August 2010.
The statue attracts on average a half-dozen visitors per day in tourism season, which means a speedy recovery and return of the statue to Melita is very important.
